Jessica Tucker

Jessica Tucker, aka Fetter, is an artist and electronic musician who creates performances, video works, and multimedia installations that restage everyday virtual interactions as complex and unstable embodiments. Her work playfully examines how interactions between bodies, words, and technologies reshape our concepts of selfhood and connection. Composing with a sprawling collage approach, she samples tropes and trash from history, myth, current events, pop culture, her family, and the Internet, remapping this media debris across virtual and hands-on materials, including 3D simulations and interactive sculptures. By emphasizing experimental and physically performative use of digital tools, her work poetically disrupts our automated relationships to technology and to each other, ultimately rerouting mundane mediated interactions towards more expansive understandings of our place in reality.

Tucker received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she is currently a Lecturer in Film, Video, New Media, and Animation. She also completed undergraduate studies at Wellesley College, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. She has performed and exhibited her work throughout Europe and the USA, and has been supported by grants and scholarships from the Mondriaan Fund, the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK), the Prins Bernhard Culture Fund, and the Young Artfund Amsterdam. She is currently an artist-in-residence through the Monira Foundation New Media Residency Program at Mana Contemporary Chicago.
