CHICAGO, IL. January 21, 2014----The Chicago Artists Coalition is pleased to announce that the Joan Mitchell Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to support the expansion and development of the Chicago Artists Resource website, known as CAR (www.chicagoartistsresource.org). This is the Foundation’s first grant to the Coalition.
“We are so appreciative of this support and partnership with the Joan Mitchell Foundation,” says Carolina Jayaram, executive director of the Coalition. “It joins other prestigious national funding that will leverage the continued growth of CAR, which serves thousands of artists and creative individuals each year.”
A program of the Chicago Artists Coalition since 2012, CAR-Chicago Artists Resource is a dynamic online platform that educates, connects and activates the creative community of Chicago and beyond. Through original content and community postings, CAR has an average of 40,000 unique visitors every month, nearly 1 million hits per year, and more than 25,000 free account holders who contribute postings regularly. CAR’s multipurpose content functions as a jobs board, event promotion, space finder, and online magazine with feature articles, interviews and stories highlighting important people and trends in the artistic community.
CAR is supported in part by major grants from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC), and the Joan Mitchell Foundation.
The Joan Mitchell Foundation celebrates the legacy of Joan Mitchell and expands her vision to support the aspirations and development of diverse contemporary artists. It works to broaden the recognition of artists and their essential contributions to communities and society. www.joanmitchellfoundation.org
