Chicago, IL—The Chicago Artists Coalition (CAC), now celebrating their 40th anniversary, is proud to announce the return of EDITION Chicago, an art fair emphasizing high-quality, moderately priced works in support of emerging artists and collectors, Sept. 19 – 21, 2014. Coinciding with EXPO CHICAGO, The International Exhibition of Contemporary and Modern Art at Navy Pier, (Sept. 18 – 21,) EDITION Chicago will exhibit work from cutting-edge galleries and non-profit institutions from around the country inside of CAC’s expansive West Loop gallery space, (217 N. Carpenter Street). Entry to EDITION Chicago is free, but a $10 donation is suggested to help fund innovative programming happening throughout the anniversary year. A full gallery list will be announced at a later date.
“Creating a marketplace that engages all levels of collectors is vital for the survival of many young art spaces in Chicago and nationally,” said CAC’s Interim Executive Director Sara Slawnik. "Building this art ecosystem is engrained in the mission of CAC, and organizing EDITION Chicago to connect artists, dealers and collectors is an exciting facet in our organization’s long history that we are happy to continue this year.”
Founded by Chicago Artists Coalition in conjunction with Chicago-based gallery owner Andrew Rafacz, EDITION Chicago debuted in 2013, welcoming hundreds of guests to view works from 14 galleries over the course of the three-day fair. Exhibiting an eclectic mix of contemporary art in all media, participating galleries reported favorable sales and interest from a broad network of collectors and supporters. Commissioner of the City of Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) Michelle T. Boone showed her enthusiasm at the new fair by purchasing a limited edition silkscreen print by local artist and designer Cody Hudson.
A n Invitation-Only VIP/press champagne breakfast preview will be held Friday, September 19. Presented by Chartwell Insurance and Chubb, and Intelligentsia.
