Weekday Closer Ceramics Technician

The Ceramics Department at Lillstreet Art Center is looking for applicants to fill the role of Weekday Closer on our Ceramics Technician team. The responsibilities and desired skills are as follows.

About Lillstreet

Founded in 1975, Lillstreet Art Center is an art school, art gallery, and artist studio space in Chicago, located in Ravenswood’s lively “Malt Row” district. We offer classes and workshops covering topics in Ceramics, Metalsmithing & Jewelry, Textiles, Printmaking & Book Arts, and Drawing & Painting. Our Kidstreet program includes multimedia classes and summer camps for children and families.

Responsibilities

• Return tools to proper storage
• Organize and return glaze buckets to proper locations
• Throw out any trash left behind
• Move left-behind pottery to lost-and-found
• Wipe down sinks, work tables, and shelves above wheels
• Assist with reclaim management
• Be available for students for general questions and assist with clay/tool purchases
• Complete BIG CLEAN tasks during breaks
• Monitor students as they work in the studio, providing guidance and feedback around safe practices
• Close studio each night, ushering out remaining students
• Assist Director of Studio Operations with tasks as assigned

Desired Qualifications

• Meticulous attention to detail
• Strong organization and prioritization skills
• Customer service experience in a variety of settings
• A demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision
• Strong communication skills
• The ability to work during the requested times
• The ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
• A background in ceramics is preferred

Schedule

This position works 12 hours weekly, Monday-Thursday, 7:45-10:45PM.

Compensation

This is a contract position compensated at $20/hr. This position also receives the following studio perks:

• 2 clay tech storage shelves in tech shelving area during contract
• 24/7 studio access to ceramics studio
• In studio usage of communal ceramics materials (stains, slips, glazes)
• 100% off one 5 week class or 50% off one ten week per session (not including material fees)
