Violin Teacher for After School Programs

Job Summary: Music House is currently seeking a violin teacher to serve in our before/after school Outreach Program in our partnering Chicago Public Schools, with option to expand schedule to private lessons with experience and commitment. This teacher would be responsible for maintaining engaging curriculum that is performance-based (training and materials available and provided), taking and submitting attendance, and committing to scheduled classes for the 2019-2020 school year. Teachers will be paid as an independent contractor.

Skills & Qualifications:

Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver effective instruction that engages young learners in ways that empower positive classroom management
  • Provide assessment once a quarter of students’ musical progress
  • Provide updates to parents on progress through assigned app
  • Collaborate with Music House admin to provide quality performances of your class twice a year
  • Concert performances each semester

Possible Classes: (Training and curriculum available for all classes)

  • Pre-Twinkle Violin, 3-4 year olds preparing to play violin through song (training available)
  • Beginning Violin, mostly kindergarteners and first graders (training available)
  • Intermediate Violin, Suzuki Repertoire
  • Advanced Violin, end of Suzuki Book 1
  • Cadet Orchestra: learning to read notes and simple orchestral material
  • String Ensemble: more advanced orchestral material

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors in Music
  • Excellent personable skills, desire to learn, and resilience when it comes to engaging students
  • Reliable Transportation
  • Teaching experience preferred

Scheduling Possibilities:

  • Monday and Wednesday, 4:00-5:15 in West Loop
  • Tuesday and Thursday, 3:45-4:45 in West Loop
  • Tuesday and Thursdays, 8:00am-8:45am in West Ridge
  • Monday and Wednesday, 3:15-4:15 in West Ridge
  • Monday and Wednesday, 3:15-4:15 in Lincoln Park
  • Tuesday and Thursdays, 3:45-4:45 in Wicker Park
  • Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00 in Logan Square
  • Training days required for inexperienced teachers, schedule TBA

Compensation: All teachers are hired as independent contractors. Pay determined based on experience, qualifications, and expertise.
