Technical Director for Musical Theater Camp (June 9-July 29)

Harand Camp of the Theatre Arts, an established musical theater and activities camp for ages 7-18, is looking for a Technical Director for its 70th Season (June 9 – July 29, 2025). Strong applicants should have skills in theater production (scenic, props, lights, sound) and experience leading or working in a team. Previous experience working with young people in the arts preferred. The position reports to our part-time Production Supervisor and will be his on-site representative working with Senior Staff, Counselors, Campers and Carthage College (as needed).

The individual must be able to work & reside on campus at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI for the duration of our camp season, June 9 – July 29, 2025. Full room & board provided (private suite in a college dorm and three meals a day catered by Parkhurst Dining).

Responsibilities may include:

  • Managing pre-camp theater load-in & set-up and post-camp strike & clean-up
  • Day-to-day management and maintenance of the theater space, ensuring the safety of campers, counselors, staff and guests
  • Executing production elements (lights, sound, scenic, props, etc.) for all camp events (such as talent shows and skit nights), as well as our big end-of-session performances a large-scale musical revue at the end of our first session, and four back-to-back musicals performed at the end of second session across one day)
  • Assisting with technical needs in other spaces as needed
  • Working in collaboration with Production Supervisor and Senior Theater Staff to develop plans for the above events and performances, and securing final purchase approval
  • Leadership of Technical Theater counselors and others, delegating responsibilities as needed to ensure projects are completed in a safe and timely manner
  • Frequent and timely communication with Production Supervisor, Show Directors and Program Directors regarding scheduling, creative and production needs
  • Development of technical theater classes (lead teaching as desired/needed)
  • The position may also require Advisor duties supervising our oldest campers

REQUIREMENTS:

  • College Degree or Commensurate Experience, Must be 18+ (21+ preferred)
  • A minimum of three years’ designing and building experience
  • Working knowledge of scenic construction & set design, lighting, rigging, sound, stage or production management, and professional standards of stage and shop safety
  • Excellent with kids of all ages
  • Ability to instruct classes in technical theater / production
  • High energy and flexible in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Positive attitude, common sense, and sound judgment
  • Sincere desire to be a role model for children

OTHER DETAILS:

  • $2300+ stipend (more based on experience)
  • Plus, full room & board at Carthage College (valued an additional $500+/week)
  • Travel Stipend available for those coming from outside Illinois/Wisconsin
  • 2025 Dates: June 9 – July 29, 2025 (Seven-week commitment including orientation)
