Teaching Artist - Theater | BEVERLY ARTS CENTER

The Beverly Arts Center, located on Chicago’s south side, is a multi-faceted organization building community through diverse, quality arts programing, education, and entertainment for all ages and levels.

The Beverly Arts Center School of Fine Arts is currently looking for theatre teachers for our community programming. Classes are offered after school and on the weekends for ages 3yrs to 18yrs, usually lasting one hour per class. Various classes are offered.

Responsibilities include:

Planning detailed lessons for weekly classes.

Assist students in the creation of their own theatrical scenes and plays.

Be able to manage the learning environment.

Adhering to specific contractual protocols on attendance and timeliness.

Teaching students artistic curriculum specific to the Teaching Artist's discipline, documenting growth in the creation process and any finished student work or culminating events.

Maintaining open lines of communication between parents and the Theatre coordinator.

Being observed in classrooms intermittently by Theatre coordinator, performing scheduled class visits as well as school/organizational personnel on a random basis.

Completing bi-weekly Time Sheets claiming payment for contracted classes taught on behalf of the BAC reflecting agreed-upon pay rates and hours.

Submitting to fingerprinting and background checks for the BAC to be cleared before placement in applicable classrooms.

Experience and Education:

Applicants should be practicing artists with a portfolio or body of work to present in conjunction with a resume detailing any relevant teaching experience or previous work with young people. A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience is strongly preferred.

A college degree in Education, preferably Theatre Education.

As representatives of the Beverly Arts Center, artists are expected to be professional, prepared and prompt for all contracted classes. The BAC reserves the right to terminate Teaching Artists from the active roster at any time if these standards are not upheld.
