Sunday Youth Leader - part time

Unity Chicago is looking to hire a part-time Youth Leader for Sunday's Youth Program. Unity is a New Thought, spiritual, inclusive, progressive church community. Sunday programs include 4 years old and up, pre-teen, and teen classroom settings. A typical class size is approximately 5-10 youth. Sunday hours would be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. which includes prep and post class time. Actual class time is 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please, check out our website at our youth page on our website at https://unitychicago.org/youth-and-family. An ideal candidate would have training / education in any of: Teaching, Early Childhood Education, the Arts or similar; or currently in school pursuing degree; and be interested in spiritual growth for oneself and to share with youth.

- Experience teaching, working with kids in school, music and / or art programs, daycamps, tutoring, or other programs.

- Enjoys children and is patient and nurturing. Kids & teens will look to this person as a role-model.

- Creative, adaptable, organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.

Ideal for creatives, artists, actors, teachers, etc. who enjoy working with kids and teens, and interested in helping to create and implement engaging and meaningful programs.

Responsibilities / Opportunities:

- Assist in creating and implementing an interesting and fun Sunday Youth program.

- Ensure kids are engaged in appropriate and meaningful activities.

- Offer meaningful age-appropriate lessons, utilizing song, art, conversation, etc. while fostering positive self-image and love to support youths’ spiritual growth.

- Learn and use basic Unity principles and teachings and apply to classroom activities.

- Maintain an organized and clean classroom.

- Maintain child, parent and guardian information and communicate accordingly as needed.

- Work to grow and support the Youth and Family Program.

Other opportunities and duties:

Maintain the Youth social media presence and monthly e-newsletter. Create youth talent shows, annual picnic activities for kids, outdoor events and games, youth fundraisers, etc. Lots of opportunity for growth and creativity. We love team members to bring ideas to the table, take initiative, and have a spiritual heart. There is typically one to two times per year that the Youth leader chaperones the teens on outside trips: field trips and one weekend overnight camp, so must have a valid drivers license and available to organize and attend these.

Optional if needed one day during the week is designated for additional prep, planning, and administrative tasks. This can be a very interesting position with multiple layers of creativity for the right person who is adaptable and motivated to jump in where needed. About us:

Unity is a non-denominational, New Thought church (inclusive, diverse, progressive, and spiritual) in the Edgewater neighborhood (Chicago, north side).

Hours: Part-Time: approx 4 hours/week Sunday mornings from 10:AM - 2:PM; If more time is needed for prep during the week that would be considered.

Wage: Hourly rate (~ $20/hour, based on experience and references)
