Stage Crew Manager for Mean Girls

Glencoe Junior High Project in Glencoe, IL

The Glencoe Junior High Project (GJHP), a 50+ year-old nonprofit organization, is seeking a candidate to serve as Stage Crew Manager for its Spring Musical: Mean Girls. The GJHP Musical is a no-cut (but high quality!) program featuring 40-50 Glencoe 6th-8th graders. The Stage Crew is limited to a maximum of 10-12 students.

This is one of the largest productions in the area, with a professional creative team providing an experience like those at New Trier High School, including exciting dances, awesome harmonies, great costumes, and a live band. The large proscenium-style theater is transformed with a large set and professional lights & sound.

Although this is a middle school show, it is a large-scale production with a long history in the community. GJHP employs a professional team to provide a high-quality experience for students and audiences.

The stipend for the position is $1000.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Train, assign and manage student crew and volunteers from initial meetings thru strike
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop and fulfill prop lists, create run sheets, etc.
  • Research and purchase necessary materials with approval of Director / Producer
  • Maintain safe and positive learning environment
  • Cultivate positive/collaborative relationships with production team, students & volunteers
  • Attend production meetings as needed
  • Ability to occasionally assist our Scenic Designer during Set Build & Painting (March 30-April 6)
  • Available to work on location at Glencoe’s Central School, Mon/Wed/Thurs 3:15-6:00pm, beginning mid-March thru performances (April 30-May 3, 2026), with additional rehearsals in April (see below).
  • Supervise student crew and volunteers during performances: Thursday, April 30 @ 7:00pm, Friday, May 1 @ 7:00pm, Saturday, May 2 @ 3:00pm, and Sunday, March 1, 2020 @ 1:00pm
  • Help to coordinate and oversee pre-production carry-up of materials on Thursday, March 26, and post-production carry-down and clean-up on May 4 & 5

Important Dates are as follows:

  • Crew Meetings Begin Mid-March: Mon, Wed & Thurs, 3:30pm-5:45pm (to 6:30pm starting April 8)
  • Additional Rehearsal April 21. No Rehearsals March 30-April 6 or April 23.
  • Carry-Up: Thursday, March 26 at 6pm (after or in place of rehearsal that day)
  • Spring Break Set Build: March 30-April 6 (Work Dates Flexible/Occasional)
  • Tech & Dress Rehearsals: Saturday, April 25, 10am-3pm (Cue to Cue 1), Sunday, April 26, 12pm-6pm (Cue to Cue 2 & Dress Rehearsal 1), Monday, April 27, 3:30pm-8pm (Dress Rehearsal 2), Tuesday, April 28, 3:30pm-8pm (Dress Rehearsal 3) Wednesday, April 29, 3:30pm-8pm (Dress Rehearsal 4)
  • Performances: April 30 – May 3, 2026 (Thurs @ 7pm, Fri @ 7pm, Sat @ 3pm, Sun @ 3pm), Your Call Time will be approximately 2 hours prior
  • Carry-Down & Clean-Up: May 4 & 5, 3:30pm-8pm (Times TBD)

Skill Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of set construction and prop design, lighting and sound board operation, stage management/or production management, and standards of stage safety
  • Experience working in an educational setting preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent leadership and team building skills
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in technical theater / stage management

The Glencoe Junior High Project (GJHP) is a parent-led, non-profit organization that has sought to engage Glencoe middle school students into the community since 1973. In order to carry out our mission of fostering socially aware, civic-minded and community-oriented individuals, we offer Glencoe 5th-8th grade students, opportunities to volunteer in their community, attend social activities and events, perform on stage, as well as access to a youth drop-in center in Central School.
