Soda Technician

Lillstreet Art Center is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and reliable Soda Technician to support our ceramics program. This position contributes to maintaining our soda kiln operations, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in the kiln area, and supporting the broader ceramics team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and refill glue, wadding, and kiln wash as needed
• Mix, maintain, and label soda glazes and slips
• Keep the Soda kiln area clean and organized
• Perform routine BIG CLEAN tasks during breaks
• Inspect kiln shelves and ensure cleanliness after each firing
• Vacuum and clean the kiln thoroughly before each firing
• Communicate supply needs or maintenance issues to the Director of Studio Operations, Ceramics
• Assist with additional tasks as assigned by the Directors of the Ceramics Department

Requirements:

• Meticulous attention to detail
• Strong organization and prioritization skills
• Customer service experience in a variety of settings
• A demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision
• Proactive and respectful communication
• Availability during scheduled work times, as discussed during onboarding
• The ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
• Preferred previous experience firing gas reduction
