Seeking piano instructor and accompanist
South Side Suzuki Cooperative (SSSC) is seeking to hire a pianist to join our dynamic and growing musical community in Hyde Park, Chicago. We are seeking a pianist to begin full time in September 2025. However, there is the opportunity to begin part time before then. A strong background in performance and pedagogy is crucial; familiarity with string repertoire is a plus.
SSSC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves over 100 students from across the South Side of Chicago. We currently provide violin, viola, piano, and cello education.
Responsibilities will be split between private teaching and accompanying. This includes accompanying SSSC’s weekly string group classes and numerous recitals and masterclasses throughout the academic year. The faculty member will also inherit a thriving studio of 20+ students and continue to teach piano group classes, and potentially a secondary piano class for string students.
Schedule: Teaching days can be set by the candidate. Accompanying dates vary but include weekends.
A successful candidate will:
- Be an enthusiastic, dedicated, and creative teaching artist who views education as integral to his/her career plans
- Hold a BA or BM in music, music education, or piano performance. Masters Degree and further pedagogy training is a plus.
- Be an accomplished performer and accompanist.
- Have received a minimum of Every Child Can! and Piano Book 1 training through the Suzuki Association of the Americas, or be willing to complete this training in the near future.
- Have strong administrative skills and an interest in leading the piano program.
- Be willing to put in significant time and effort to help further develop the piano program.
