Scenic Painter

We are seeking a skilled Scenic Painter to join our fabrication shop, specializing in exhibits, exhibitions, and live experience projects. This role involves preparing and finishing scenic elements, props, and set pieces using a variety of painting techniques, textures, and finishes. The ideal candidate has a strong artistic background, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines while producing high-quality finishes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply a range of scenic painting techniques, including color matching, spraying, hand-painting, aging, distressing, and faux finishing.
  • Prepare and finish surfaces on materials such as wood, metal, plastics, and foam.
  • Interpret and execute design references, blueprints, and finish specifications to meet artistic and production needs.
  • Utilize spray techniques, hand-painting, washes, and textures to create realistic or stylized effects.
  • Ensure consistency and high-quality finishes across all scenic elements and props.
  • Collaborate with fabricators, designers, and project managers to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Maintain painting tools, equipment, and workspaces to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Work within tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience as a scenic painter in exhibits, theater, film, or live events.
  • Proficiency in color mixing, faux finishing, and spray techniques.
  • Strong ability to interpret design references and finish specifications.
  • Experience working with a variety of materials, including wood, metal, plastics, and foam.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate scenic elements as needed in a fabrication environment.

Terms & Compensation:

  • Contract Position
  • Project Start: April 1, 2025
  • Estimated Project End: July 1, 2025
  • Pay Range: $25 - $35 per hour, based on experience and skill level
  • Hours per week: 32-40 (average)
