Residency Manager

Position Overview:

Floating Museum seeks a dynamic and collaborative Residency Manager to oversee and help shape the next phase of our Burroughs Residency program. Now in year two of a three-year pilot phase, the residency aims to provide living space, creative support, and a strong sense of community for artists and makers—connecting residents with Floating Museum’s local, national, and international networks and creative partners.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced individual to join our team in a pivotal role, partnering closely with Floating Museum’s leadership and the Residency Advisory Council (RAC) to guide the development and implementation of the residency model, support participating artists, and manage all aspects of program delivery.

This position is grant-funded through the end of 2026, with the possibility of renewal or extension. Please note: while this role does not include health or retirement benefits, it includes paid holidays, paid time off (PTO), and a hybrid work schedule (a combination of remote, on-site, and off-site work).

Key Responsibilities:

Program Oversight & Development

Work with Burroughs Residency Advisory Council to research residency models, shape program goals, selection processes, and long-term vision.Coordinate artist selection, contracts, onboarding, and orientation for a minimum of 2 resident artists annually.Support artists projects and collaborations with community partners, including site-specific and public-facing work.Plan and facilitate events at the Burroughs site with support from Floating Museum’s Project Manager.Collaborate with Floating Museum’s Deputy Director to plan and facilitate Residency Advisory Council (RAC) meetings and organize field trips that support program development and artist learning.

Artist Support & Engagement

Act as the primary point of contact for resident artists during their term.Organize connection points with community partners and peers both locally and internationally.Coordinate travel, housing, and workspace logistics for visiting artists as needed.

Administration & Communications

Track program expenses and coordinate with the Director of Operations on budgeting.Collaborate with the communications team to share and develop program updates.Maintain clear documentation of artist progress, public programs, and residency outcomes.

Partnerships & Strategy

Nurture relationships with program funders and community collaborators.Collaborate with the Deputy Director to steward the Residency Advisory Council (RAC), to provide consistent engagement with the network and integration of partner perspectives.Contribute to fundraising efforts including grants, reports, and program narratives.Represent the residency in meetings, presentations, and field convenings.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

3–5 years of program or project management experience in arts, cultural, or community-based settings; residency program experience preferredExperience working with artists and knowledge of contemporary art practicesExcellent organizational and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work both independently and collaborativelyFamiliarity with grant-funded programs and reporting a plusComfort working in a flexible, evolving, team-based structureValid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
