Natural Dye Instructor
The Textiles Department at Lillstreet is seeking a teacher to instruct adult classes in Natural Dye. Responsibilities and desired qualifications are listed below:
Key Responsibilities
- Teach a maximum of 10 students, a minimum of 4
- Teach students how to use and modify a variety of Natural Dye materials, as well as binding techniques
- Create a syllabus or basic outline for the class curriculum to be given to your Department Director and your students
- Provide a supply list for student materials and demonstration materials
Desired Qualifications
- Expert experience in natural dye
- Ability to be punctual for setting up the materials for each class meeting, and ability to engage students in clean up process
- Starting in the fall: available to teach Tuesdays 5:45-9pm from September 9- November 11
- For future Natural Dye classes and workshops: available to work weeknights and/or Saturday or Sunday mornings or afternoons
- 2+ years of teaching experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in customer service
- Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in art or related field (preferred, not required)
Compensation
This is a contract position starting at $24/hr commensurate with experience. The position starts at $26/hr if the candidate holds a masters degree.
Schedule
We are seeking a Natural Dye Instructor to teach on Tuesdays 6-9pm, September 9- November 11. Additional class and workshop opportunities to be determined for future sessions. Classes at Lillstreet Art Center run for either five or ten weeks, meeting once a week for three hours. Teachers are required to come 15 minutes in advance (paid). Natural Dye Teachers may be asked to come in 30 minutes in advance (paid). Exact schedule will be determined with the department director post hiring.
