JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Art/Special Events Manager, the Music Instructor is responsible for planning and executing music classes, including private and group lessons.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Select and plan music curriculum for all ages
• Provide music instruction in accordance with age and ability of student
• Plan and execute a performance at the end of the season (for applicable classes)
• Attend all classes, performances, and staff meetings
• Complete clerical duties involved with performance processes
• Communicate effectively and professionally with participants, parents, and staff
• Perform the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the employee handbook
• Maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
• General work area is indoors in a smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting
• Exposure to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation
• Infrequent exposure to cleaning materials
• Subject to modified/flexible work schedule
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Desire to work with ages six years to adult
• Knowledge of basic music theory, music theory, current music trends, classroom etiquette, and posture and breathing techniques
• Demonstrate the ability to provide leadership
• Organized, creative, flexible, and effective communication skills
• Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• College degree in Music or related field preferred
• Five to seven years of training in music
• Three to five years of experience teaching music
