Mural Arts Internship
Under the supervision of the Green Star staff, interns provide assistance with our program and administrative needs while gaining valuable professional experience and receiving feedback on a range of skills.
Spring Session typically involves working in a fast paced environment with our skilled teams to install mosaic murals in their final locations across Chicago.
You, as an intern, will assist the install team will the large scale installation process as they create framework for the mosaic boards, place and bolt in the canvas. As part of the mosaic team, you will be trained in various techniques to finish the mosaic work, grout, and polish it. You may complete anywhere between 5- 8 murals in this 2 month session.
Internships are offered quarterly in the fall, winter, spring, and summer.
Applications for Spring 2025 internships are due by April 13th, 2025.
Spring 2025 internships take place May 5th - July 4th.
This internship will be in-person and requires a flexible schedule. Interns must be able to work during regular business hours Monday - Friday.
Interns must be able to commit to 14-16 hours a week. (Recommended having a minimum of two days available Monday- Friday to work.)
Mural Arts Program Interns will:
Gain skills in the fundamentals of bricolage mosaic (tiling, grouting, mirror-cutting, sculpture, mixing/coloring mortar, etc.)
Develop relationship-building skills with youth
Teach/lead a small group of students or volunteers in tasks and activities
Prepare the work site for the day’s tasks and conduct clean up
Be able to teach/lead a small group of students or volunteers in tasks and activities
Be able to give positive constructive feedback to youth and volunteers.
