The Art Center, a not-for-profit organization, is the North Shore’s home for artistic discovery and creative exploration. Through innovative programs, exhibitions, and classes designed for all levels and ages, The Art Center provides a welcoming space for our diverse communities to experience and participate in the arts.
Although predominately focused on the visual arts, TAC has expanded its mission to include arts in all forms such as writing, acting, performance, and the like.
The Art Center is located in Highland Park, a 45 -60 minute drive north of Chicago, and is a 10-minute walk from the Highland Park, UPN Metra Train stop.
TAC Mosaics
TAC offers Mosaics classes for both youth and adults, Monday through Friday. Adult classes run for 2-3 hours, 9 am -12 pm or 9:30-12:30 pm, 12:30-3:30 pm or 1-4 pm and 6-9 pm or 6:30-9:30 pm. Youth classes run 4-5:30 pm or 4-6 pm during the school year.
Mosaics Studio Manager Duties
The Mosaics Studio Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Mosaics Studio and its classes run as smoothly as possible. The Manager’s main duties involve maintaining the studio and coordinating upkeep with other mosaic faculty members/monitors and volunteers. The Mosaics Manager will also assist in recruiting new mosaics faculty as needed, interact with students, and brainstorm potential paths of growth and development for the department, all in direct support of and under the direction of the Director of Education.
Main responsibilities:
Coordinate with Mosaics’ faculty regarding supplies, classes, and workshops Communicate/interact with Mosaics students and parents as needed Maintain the Mosaics studio and studio equipment Ensure studio has enough materials to support all classes, workshops, and registered students Prepare materials for workshops and classes, as needed Keep Inventory of Studio Materials and tools Schedule, assign, and manage monitors to Open Studios as needed Provide studio orientation to new Mosaics instructors
Additional Duties:
Check-in regularly with Director of Education on status of the department and studio
The ideal candidate will:
Have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Mosaics – or equivalent experience working in Mosaics mediumHave at least 1-year experience teaching adults of various ages and backgrounds Have experience running and maintaining a Mosaics studio Have strong written and verbal communication skillsBe highly organizedBe comfortable communicating with faculty and students of all agesExperience working in a recreational/non-academic environment a plus
This is an independent contractor position. Pay is a flat monthly rate, for approximately hours per week or a minimum of 27 hours per month. TAC does not compensate for travel time or travel expenses.
