Looking for Creative Female Companions | $22.50/h | 9am-6pm shift | Highland Park, IL

Are you a compassionate and engaging individual with a passion for the arts and a knack for providing companionship and assistance? We are seeking a dedicated companion and personal assistant for a well-to-do client in Highland Park. The ideal candidate will be poised, polished, and college-educated, with a genuine interest in fostering meaningful connections and enriching experiences.

Responsibilities:

Provide companionship and engage the client in stimulating activities.

Assist with running errands and scheduling appointments.

Accompany the client to botanic gardens and museums, fostering her love for the arts.

Facilitate medication reminders, coordinating with local children to fill pillboxes.

Offer support and engage in conversations, including discussions about politics.

Be attentive to the client's needs and preferences, ensuring her comfort and enjoyment.

Qualifications:

  • Female candidate preferred.
  • College-educated with a background in arts or humanities preferred.
  • Polished and poised demeanor, with excellent communication skills.
  • Companionable and empathetic, with a genuine interest in building meaningful relationships.
  • Valid driver's license with access to a vehicle.

Schedule:

  • Desired schedule from 9am to 6pm, 7 days a week.

Compensation:

Competitive hourly rate.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing proactive companionship to older adults and people with chronic health conditions in their homes (e.g., discussing current events, creating artwork, reviewing photo albums).
  • Planning activities outside the home and accompanying clients to keep them engaged with the world (e.g., trips to museums, concerts, plays, or the park).
  • Escorting clients to doctors’ appointments.
  • Running errands for clients (e.g., grocery shopping, sundries).
  • Reminding clients to take their medications.
  • Doing light exercise with clients (e.g., helping with stretching routine).
  • Assisting clients in preparing meals.
  • Performing light housekeeping, such as dusting, tidying, and laundry.

Qualifications:

We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds including the creative arts and healthcare fields. Our employment is selective. Strong candidates possess:

  • A passion for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Prior experience working with this population is valued, but not required.
  • An accredited high school diploma, though we prefer candidates with college degrees or those currently attending colleges or graduate schools.
  • Deep empathy and patience.
  • Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness.
  • Creativity and a positive, open-hearted approach.
  • Strong composure under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust-based relationships with clients and their families.
