Lighting Designer
Governors State University’s Theatre and Performance Studies program is seeking a Lighting Designer for its upcoming spring production of By The Way, Meet Vera Stark by Lynn Nottage.
General Show Information
- Auditions will occur on February 2nd and 3rd with rehearsals starting on Saturday, February 7th, 2026.
- All rehearsals will occur on the Governors State campus in Chicago’s south suburbs.
- Performance dates: April 9-12, 2026, in Governors State University’s Sherman Hall

Lighting Designer Responsibilities
- Design the lighting for TAPS’s production of By The Way, Meet Vera Stark
- Create and implement a lighting plot with in-house lighting equipment per the design
- Collaboratively work with the production team
- Keep impeccable financial paperwork and receipts
- Coordinate a focusing and cueing schedules with production staff
- Adhere to the production deadlines
- Program the board and troubleshoot during the production
- Work professionally with student crew members
- Prepare and update lighting paperwork
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Duties in collaboration with the Production Manager
- Share documentation for archival records
- Submit production financial records and receipts
Qualifications
- Proven Lighting Design experience
- Local to the Chicagoland area
- Ability to travel to the Governors State campus
- Ability to attend all production meetings, design meetings, load-in, and tech.
- Able to carry out all duties in a timely manner, with a positive attitude
- Ability to communicate clearly and in a timely manner
- Good time management and budgetary skills
The salary for this position is $1,100.
