Intern/Temp for EXPO at Kavi Gupta Gallery

As an intern at Kavi Gupta Gallery your responsibilities will include general gallery upkeep, including stocking materials throughout the gallery, assuring spaces are tidy and well kept, and working to present the gallery in the best possible light to visitors.

You will be responsible for greeting visitors, fielding phone calls, cleaning and organization, effectively communicating with gallery staff, and upholding the gallery’s mission.

Motivation to learn about the gallery’s history and artists is required. As an intern, you will have access to internal educational resources on gallery history and artists. This includes videos & publications by the gallery as well as our archive and gallery library.

There will be professional development opportunities including but not limited to resume reviews, team meetings, and opportunities to liaise at different levels of the organization to learn firsthand about roles and responsibilities within the gallery.

A good sense of hospitality and desire to learn is highly valued. The ability to follow direction, remain flexible and work within a fluid environment is also highly valued. Candidates with prior gallery, hospitality, and/or museum experience are preferred. Knowledge of and ability to speak about art history and contemporary art is highly desired.

Additional tasks may include various reception responsibilities, such as logging package arrivals, or updating call logs and mailing lists. Additionally cataloging gallery publications; facilitating gallery visitor communications via in-person and online platforms; maintaining records of gallery visitor interactions at events; prepping materials and cleaning of spaces for the art fair and exhibitions; and working with senior staff to ensure successful exhibition openings. Further, preparing and shipping materials to collectors, museums, and running necessary errands.

This position is paid. Interns are asked to be at the gallery at least 1 - 2 days per week from 10am to 7pm weekdays, or 11am to 6pm weekends. Times may vary depending on the needs of the gallery and intern, particularly during EXPO weekend. Interns must be available the weekend of EXPO, April 24-27th 2025.

This internship is a short-term contract intended for temporary staffing during the weeks leading up to or of EXPO Chicago, with the potential for extension based on performance evaluations and at the intern's request.
