Guitar Instructor (Chicago Non-Profit Music School)
UpBeat Music and Arts is one of the fastest growing music schools in Chicago, now serving over 400 students annually. Our mission is to help students reach their full potential in life through music and our staff is passionate, fun, talented and dedicated to helping young people have better lives! The UpBeat Music and Arts Guitar Instructor will work with a small team and gain valuable insight into the teaching and mentoring needs at a small and growing nonprofit. The majority of responsibilities will include teaching individual guitar lessons to children ages 7-1 and adults, planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, and helping to coordinating and support program activities.
Responsibilities may include:
Teaching theory, technique, performance, and composition in 30-45 minute individual guitar lessons.
Utilizing exercises and games to help motivate students to learn specific ideas and techniques.
Conducting ongoing assessments of student achievements through formal and informal testing.
Helping to apply and enforce student discipline when necessary.
Assisting to create, organize, and manage daily games, recreation, and team building exercises.
Participating in planning meetings and contribute towards organizing activities, music curriculum design, and student/parent feedback processes.
Qualifications
Proficient in music theory and guitar performance
Previous work experience in music education is preferred, but not required
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills with children
The ability to work both independently and within a group environment
Time Commitment
4-12 hours/week
Mondays-Thursdays, 3:30-7:30pm (flexible)Saturdays (10am-2pm)
