Compensation: $17-$18 per hour + Commission

Position Summary:
The Visitor Services Associate at the International Museum of Surgical Science (IMSS) will serve as the first point of contact for guests, ensuring a welcoming and engaging experience. This role is responsible for managing front desk operations, processing admissions and gift shop transactions, fulfilling online orders, and overseeing the museum’s membership program. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and a passion for museums and cultural institutions. An ideal candidate is interested in the opportunity for growth. The Visitor Services and Gift Shop Coordinator reports to the Director of Museum Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist visitors, providing information about exhibits, programs, and museum policies.
- Manage the museum’s membership program, including sign-ups, renewals, and member engagement.
- Manage the museum’s online store and keeping stock counts accurate on Square
- Updating online store every week
- Marketing for gift shop sales, conducting emails, text messages, website ads, newsletters, and print media
- Placing new gift shop orders
- Process admissions, gift shop purchases, and online orders accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of visitor attendance and sales transactions.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, ensuring the front desk and retail areas are organized and well-stocked.
- Address visitor inquiries and resolve concerns to enhance the overall guest experience.
- Collaborate with museum staff to support special events, programs, and promotions.
- Perform other administrative and operational tasks as needed.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in customer service, retail, or museum operations preferred.
- Experience/interest in retail merchandising, designing displays and researching items.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A team player.
- Proficiency in Square point-of-sale (POS) systems or other POS systems and basic computer applications.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive and friendly attitude with a commitment to exceptional visitor experience.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods.
