Gallery Assistant
Madron Gallery, a family-owned gallery specializing in late 19th- and early 20th-century American Art, is seeking a highly motivated part-time Gallery Assistant. Through its scholarship-informed programming and curated exhibitions, Madron Gallery is deeply committed to supporting Chicago artists, celebrating Jewish artists, and serving as dedicated stewards of the American art legacy.
Reporting directly to Madron’s Director, the Gallery Assistant will play a pivotal role in the daily operations, encompassing a diverse set of responsibilities. We are seeking a master's or PhD candidate who possesses a genuine interest in American and/or Jewish Art, coupled with prior experience in a gallery or exhibition setting. Essential qualifications include strong research and writing skills, exceptional attention to detail, a proactive self-starter mindset, proven customer service abilities, and a demonstrated capacity to meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage social media presence: create, schedule, and respond to posts and inquiries to enhance engagement.
Conduct in-depth research and write engaging content for a monthly newsletter highlighting individual artworks from the Madron collection.
Assist with the safe transportation of artwork to and from various vendors.
Support gallery operations, including meticulous artwork installation and de-installation.
Coordinate and assist with the seamless setup and breakdown of gallery receptions and events.
Maintain the gallery library, ensuring it is clean, organized, and properly cataloged.
Assist in maintaining accurate and comprehensive catalogue information for the gallery collection.
Provide comprehensive administrative and project-based support to the Director on larger initiatives.
Proficiency in photography, photo editing, and gallery preparation is highly advantageous. This is a part-time position, requiring approximately 16 hours per week, with flexibility for up to 20 hours per week when the gallery hosts events. Must have valid driver's license.
