Full-Time Visiting Faculty Position in the Department of Arts Administration & Policy
The Department of Arts Administration and Policy at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) invites applications for a two-year visiting faculty position, beginning August 2020.
The Arts Administration and Policy Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago is structured around values that are central to the field of Arts Administration: collaboration, creative leadership, critical thinking, activism, and reflection. The department has a fundamental commitment to the practice of arts administration both within traditionally-defined arts institutions and also in sectors where culture and social justice intersect. The department embraces the interdisciplinary, experimental core of SAIC through integrated curriculum design, the merging of theory and practice, the development of new modalities and partnerships, and the combining of idealistic and inventive values with solid grounding in practical skills.
Student research within the Arts Administration and Policy Department at SAIC has long focused on the intersection of art and social change, most recently in areas of research and practice to include equity, racial justice, and the complex role of culture in economic development.

Full-time visiting faculty in the Department of Arts Administration and Policy teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students within the interdisciplinary art and design school environment of SAIC. The visiting faculty member will teach three courses each semester and be available to graduate students for advising. Depending on the visiting faculty member’s area(s) of expertise and experience, the full-time visiting faculty member will teach graduate-level classes in one or more of the following:

- Cultural Policy Studies, especially in a global context
- Digital practices in Arts Administration
- Urban studies and planning
- Community development practices, as they connect with cultural activity
- Social justice and equity work through arts and culture
There may also be opportunities to develop elective course offerings, at either the undergraduate or graduate level, within the visiting faculty member’s area(s) of expertise.
A terminal degree in arts administration or a related field is preferred. Teaching experience at the college level is preferred. The ideal candidate will contribute to the diversity of the School by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expand the intellectual conversations and design practices in the field. We seek candidates with the knowledge and aptitude to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds. Candidates working in arts administration or tangent disciplines with the capacity and interest to shape, re-envision, and even revolutionize the very platforms and organizational mechanisms through which arts-inspired conversation and change can occur are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be a responsive, dialogic problem-solver whose work with art, artists, and audiences is mutually creative.
