Full-Time Visiting Artist in Painting and Drawing

The Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) invites applications for a Full-Time Visiting Artist. The position begins in August of 2024.

Program Profile

The Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago is an open community with a strong commitment to painting's varied discourses, its histories, and to experimentation. The collection of the Art Institute of Chicago is the highlight of the Department's curricular fieldwork. The department has a diverse faculty of more than 70 working artists.

Responsibilities

Full-time Visiting Artists in the Department of Painting and Drawing teach undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate level classes, including working with Post-baccalaureate and MFA students on a tutorial basis. Undergraduate classes will include studio drawing and studio painting at all curricular and developmental levels within the interdisciplinary art and design school environment of SAIC.

Qualifications

A MFA degree in Painting, Drawing, or a terminal degree in other relevant fields of study is preferred. Teaching experience and a professional exhibition record is required. Artists whose studio practice incorporates painting and drawing or who work in the expanded field are encouraged to apply. The ability to communicate with undergraduate and graduate students is vital. The ideal candidate will contribute to the diversity of the School by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expand the intellectual conversations and practices in the field. We seek candidates with the knowledge and aptitude to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.

Applicants who have taught at SAIC within the past five years are ineligible for this position.
