Fiddle Instructor


Summary:
The Old Town School of Folk Music seeks a part-time fiddle instructor to teach kids’ group classes at its Lincoln Square and Lincoln Park locations. This candidate will provide engaging instruction incorporating folk-style teaching based on global folk traditions to help students of various ages and skill levels develop their technique, musicality, and repertoire in a group setting.

Schedule: Weekends, mornings, afternoon; less than 5 hours per week with potential for additional hours

Location: Lincoln Square and Lincoln Park

Duties:

  • Work with children, parents, and caregivers to create a positive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on student showcases and performances.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Creating lesson plans guided by our curriculum and training.
  • Handle administrative tasks and maintain interdepartmental communications as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Education or Performance preferred
  • Minimum two years of group teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching fiddle in a folk style, with the ability to engage students of different ages and levels, from beginners to advanced
  • Knowledge of the Suzuki method of teaching
  • High level of musicianship and personal responsibility
  • Weekend, morning, and after-school availability required
  • Ability to teach children ages 2 to 13

Instructor Hourly Pay Rate: $37/hour

Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music (“OTSFM”) is the largest community school of the arts in the U.S. and a non-profit organization committed to celebrating American music and global cultures.
