Director, Drawing & Painting
Summary
The Director of Drawing & Painting oversees all aspects of the Drawing & Painting department at Lillstreet Art Center. This role manages curriculum development, faculty coordination, and studio operations to maintain a vibrant, inclusive, and professional learning environment. Core responsibilities include program planning, faculty mentorship, budgeting, studio management, and maintaining facilities and supplies.
Essential Job Functions
Programming
- Schedule all classes and workshops for five sessions annually
- Maintain and develop the curriculum for core classes and workshops.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop proposed classes and syllabi, refine project sequences, and ensure accuracy and feasibility of supply lists.
- Organize visiting artist workshops, seasonal programs, and event demos.
Faculty Management
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and supervise new teachers, teaching assistants and monitors (volunteers) as needed.
- Manage faculty scheduling, including finding and scheduling substitutes.
Studio & Facility Management
- Oversee four classrooms to ensure safe, functional, and well-equipped learning environments.
- Recruit, train, and supervise studio monitors; coordinate weekly classroom maintenance tasks.
- Procure new furniture and equipment as needed to support program needs and safety standards
Other Responsibilities
- Review and resolve departmental incident reports.
- Manage department Instagram.
- Order, receive and organize large supply deliveries; coordinate inventory distribution and ensure classroom readiness each term.
- Manage departmental budgets, purchasing, reimbursements, and monthly reconciliations.
- Cultivate a healthy, inclusive, and collaborative studio culture; manage interpersonal and structural challenges as they arise.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- BFA in Painting and/or related field; MFA preferred
- 4+ years of teaching experience
- 2+years of management experience; in an arts/studio environment preferred
- 1+ years of customer service experience
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Highly organized and systems-oriented
- Collaborative team player
Work Environment
This position works across four classroom spaces. Administrative work is completed in shared office spaces and/or empty classrooms. Flexibility with working from home.
Physical Demands
The position requires both physical and seated labor. Qualified candidates must be able to sit for long periods of time and lift 30+ pounds.
The position requires 28 hours per week of work and is paid in the range of 40,000 to 43,000 annually. Benefits include : Health insurance, Free classes, 401k after a year
