Creative Companion Caregiver for Alzheimer's and Dementia Care
Job description
We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and engaging individual to provide companionship and support for an elderly client. This role requires a warm-hearted person who can bring joy, creativity, and a sense of well-being to our client's daily life.
Flexible scheduling: Shifts vary from 4 to 12 hours, including weekdays and weekends, providing you with the flexibility you need.
Location preference: Candidates should reside on the North side or in the north/northwest suburbs.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide companionship and engage in meaningful conversations.
Plan and participate in creative activities such as arts and crafts, music, and light exercise.
Assist with daily routines, including meal preparation, light housekeeping, and personal care.
Accompany the client on outings, appointments, and social events.
Ensure the client's safety and well-being at all times.
Communicate regularly with family members and healthcare providers to report on the client’s condition and activities.
Qualifications:
Experience in caregiving, companionship, or a related field is preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Creative and enthusiastic approach to engaging clients in activities.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in the well-being of elderly individuals.
Preferred Skills:
Background in art, music, or other creative disciplines.
Experience with dementia or Alzheimer’s care.

Responsibilities:
· Providing proactive companionship to older adults and people with chronic health conditions in their homes (e.g., discussing current events, creating artwork, reviewing photo albums).
· Planning activities outside the home and accompanying clients to keep them engaged with the world (e.g., trips to museums, concerts, plays, or the park).
· Escorting clients to doctors’ appointments.
· Running errands for clients (e.g., grocery shopping, sundries).
· Reminding clients to take their medications.
· Doing light exercise with clients (e.g., helping with stretching routine).
· Assisting clients in preparing meals.
· Performing light housekeeping, such as dusting, tidying, and laundry.
Qualifications:
We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds including the creative arts and healthcare fields. Our employment is selective. Strong candidates possess:
· A passion for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Prior experience working with this population is valued, but not required.
· An accredited high school diploma, though we prefer candidates with college degrees or those currently attending colleges or graduate schools.
· Deep empathy and patience.
· Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness.
· Creativity and a positive, open-hearted approach.
· Strong composure under pressure.
· Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust-based relationships with clients and their families.
