Collaborative Pianist - Forte Ensemble
Spirito Singers seeks an experienced and highly-qualified collaborative pianist to work with the conductor and singers of our Forte ensemble (2nd-4th graders). Rehearsals take place weekly from 5:00-6:00 pm on Monday nights during the school year at First Congregational Church of La Grange.
Forte performs two majors concerts per year – one in December and one in May.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Collaborative Pianist include:
• Play at weekly Forte rehearsals, assisting with part-learning, warm-ups, and vocal reinforcement during the rehearsal process when necessary
• Perform with Forte in all major concerts each season
• Together with the conductor, deliver a high-quality choral education to a group of elementary-school-aged singers each week
• Other duties as requested
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Experience working with choirs (experience with young voices a plus)
• Excellent sight-reading abilities
• Ability to read western classical notation in both close and open score
• Improvisation skills and ability to read lead sheet notation a plus• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• The ability to be prompt, responsive, and professional in all aspects of the work
• Cheerful, welcoming, and fun-loving attitude
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in music, music education, music performance, a closely-related field, and/or prior experience teaching or working as a collaborative pianist for choirs.
Compensation
The Forte Collaborative Pianist is compensated at a rate of $50/hr. for rehearsals. All performances and dress rehearsals are compensated at a rate of $100/call.
