Choral Conductor - Forte Ensemble
Spirito Singers seeks an experienced and highly-qualified choral conductor to work with the singers of our Forte ensemble (2nd-4th graders). Rehearsals take place weekly from 5:00-6:00 pm on Monday evenings during the school year at First Congregational Church of La Grange.
Forte performs with the rest of Spirito Singers in two large concerts each season.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Conductor include:
• Work with the Artistic Director to program age- and developmentally-appropriate repertoire for each semester
• Lead weekly rehearsals, delivering a high-quality choral education to elementary-school-aged singers
• Recruit and retain a cohort of singers through enthusiastic, engaging programming and supportive rehearsals
• Communicate with the Forte Collaborative Pianist regarding weekly rehearsal plans, and work together to deliver instruction
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding call times, attendance, expectations, and other ensemble-related matters
• Take and maintain accurate attendance records, communicating with parents and the Artistic Director when necessary
• Conduct Forte in all major concerts each season
• Other duties as requested
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Demonstrated success working with singers (success with younger voices a plus)
• Understanding of young voices and knowledge of age-appropriate choral repertoire
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Passion for Spirito’s mission of leadership, excellence, and service
• Ability to design and implement creative, engaging rehearsals
• The ability to be prompt, responsive, and professional in all aspects of the work
• Cheerful, welcoming, and fun-loving attitude
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in music, music education, music performance, a closely-related field, and/or prior experience teaching.
Compensation
The Forte Conductor is compensated at a rate of $60/hr. for rehearsals. All performances and dress rehearsals are compensated at a rate of $120/call.
