Camp Guitar Instructor (Seasonal)

Summary: The Old Town School of Folk Music is seeking a Guitar Instructor for our Guitar Stars summer camp program, working with children ages 6-11. This is a temporary summer camp position designed for instructors who love working with young musicians, fostering creativity, and preparing students for an exciting end-of-camp showcase.

Location: Lincoln Square, Chicago, IL

Schedule: Varies based on camp schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead engaging group guitar lessons for children ages 6-11 at varying skill levels.
  • Teach a diverse repertoire including pop, rock, and folk music.
  • Inspire and motivate students while fostering an inclusive and creative learning environment.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors and program staff.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to coordinate and enhance camp activities.
  • Prepare students for their final performance at the Camp Showcase.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience with children (preferred).
  • Strong musicianship and personal responsibility.
  • Experience leading group classes and engaging young learners.
  • Ability to teach beginning through advanced levels.
  • Passion for children’s music education and working with families.
  • Knowledge of diverse musical styles and ability to adapt teaching methods.
  • Strong creativity, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Availability to work afternoon and evening hours.
