ABOUT THE POSITION
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Early College Program (ECP), Early College Program Summer Institute (ECPSI), and Early College Program Online Summer Institute (ECPOSI) offer high school students multiple ways to engage their creative interests and explore a variety of media. Our programs also provide a great way for students planning to apply to art and design schools to prepare portfolio-ready work.
Course Title: Animation Studio
Format: In Person
Course Dates: 2/8 - 4/26 (30 contact hours)
Meeting Times: Sundays, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Teaching Assistant: One SAIC undergraduate or graduate student will be assigned to TA the course.
Class Capacity: 14 Students
Course Description: Explore traditional and digital animation techniques like frame-by-frame, stop motion, and more. Beginning with sketches and storyboards, complete several projects focusing on communicating ideas through motion studies, character and environment development, storytelling, and other cinematic devices. Develop a final project based on individual goals and interests using various tools throughout the course. Basic drawing and computer experience are required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
An Instructor is contracted to teach a Continuing Studies course and is responsible for the following:
- Develops course outline and student supply list
- Sets the tone for the class, establishes guidelines and protocols for behavior and classroom activity, and provides instruction that meets the needs of all learners
- Submits all requested materials to the appropriate administrative offices, including new hire paperwork and/or contracts, course outline, student/class supply list, grades, student and course evaluations, etc.
- Attends a Continuing Studies instructor meeting
- Adheres to all policies outlined in the Continuing Studies Instructor Handbook
- Provides documentation of finished and in-progress student work
- Responds to all departmental communication in a timely fashion
- Note: All Instructors are required to complete a background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Regular written and spoken communication with students, teaching assistants, and CS administration.
- Oversight over students in the classroom and during trips to the Art Institute of Chicago.
- Moving throughout the classroom to manage students and supplies.*
- Maintaining classrooms and supply closets, which may include infrequent moving of furniture and heavy supplies or equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- MFA in Animation or a related field is highly preferred
- At least one year of experience teaching preferred
- Experience writing curriculum and supply lists
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Experience working with a teaching assistant is preferred
