Academic Advisor - UIC College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts

The College of Architecture, Design and the Arts (CADA) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor. This position acts as the first point of contact for current and prospective CADA students to provide academic, career and personal counseling in coordination with the advising team. The incumbent assists with development and implementation of academic, career and student affairs programs involving outreach to internal and external constituencies including prospective and admitted students, alumni, high school and community agencies. In addition to advising responsibilities, this Academic advisor will often be the first point of contact for visitors to the Office of Student Affairs. This academic advisor will process, track and report on student advising activities including advising notes, student petitions, transfer course evaluation, grade audit, probation, dismissal, graduation clearance and monitor and report on success of assigned students.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Counseling or related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of student development theory and academic programming. Working knowledge of university academic policies, federal guidelines regarding financial aid, academic records, college entrance procedures and available student resources.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in higher education student learning, counseling or related.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with diverse populations; demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to socio-ethnic and cultural communication styles.
