Collectors Circle: Private Collection Virtual Tour with Susan Aurinko

Susan Aurinko has been an artist all her life- she started trading artwork with friends as far back as art school in the early 70s. Aurinko and her husband began seriously collecting in 1987 when they bought a Roger Brown and a Karl Wirsum from Phyllis Kind Gallery for their anniversary and have added art on their anniversary every year since. Their collection grew exponentially during the nine years Aurinko owned FLATFILE galleries and the couple continues to be friends with many of the artists she represented. FLATFILE specialized in photography and abstract art; and both, as well as figurative art, have found a home in the collection. Aurinko designed their new home in Lincoln Square and has curated their collection as she curated the gallery’s exhibitions, including the upstairs photography gallery, which spans two sides of a wide gallery-style hallway designed so no direct sunlight shines on the photographs. Aurinko is herself an acclaimed photographer who has shown her work in France, Italy, India and the US. Her studio is on the first floor of the couple’s home and is, as she says, where she works in pursuit of magic.
