Collectors Circle: Private Home Collection Tour with JoAnn Seagren & Scott Lang
Collectors Circle: Private Collection Tour with JoAnn Seagren & Scott Lang
Thursday, October 17
6-7:30pm
Scott Lang began buying art on a shoestring budget in the 1970’s as a young lawyer in Washington, DC, where he befriended a number of up and coming artists from New York who introduced him to the contemporary art world and helped train his eye. His law firm later asked him to participate in curating and purchasing one of the first major law firm contemporary art collections in the U.S., which gave him inspiration to continue his own collecting.
The collection that Lang and his wife, JoAnn Seagren, have since assembled spans several decades and genres, and includes paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and photographs, many of which have been on loan to museum exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. It is best known for works by outsider and self-taught artists, Chicago Imagists - most of whom came out of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1970's and, not coincidentally, were also admirers and early collectors of outsider and self-taught art - and by a few well-known contemporary artists.
This event is open to Collectors Circle members only. Please RSVP to Karina Quintana
