Collectors Circle: Studio & Private Collection Tour with Melissa Weber and Jay Dandy

Collectors Circle: Studio & Private Collection Tour with Melissa Weber and Jay Dandy

Thursday, April 11
6-7:30pm

The 1909 Kenwood home of Melissa Weber and Jay Dandy is the site of an eclectic and unique collection of contemporary art combined with mid-century furniture and objects, contemporary ceramics and a smattering of early American and English antiques. The juxtaposition of architects Frost and Granger’s neo gothic design with artworks ranging from Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein prints to current work by Tony Tasset and Tom Friedman, lend an unexpected and quirky element to the residence. Melissa received her MFA in Ceramics from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and currently teaches at the Hyde Park Art Center. Jay is a research assistant in the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Melissa Weber creates abstract ceramic sculpture and installations by cutting, throwing, stacking, slip casting and assembling multiple forms. She is intrigued by the shifting vocabulary of materials and the creation of unexpected juxtapositions between objects. The display and reframing of things into ordered visual systems and topographies is central to her work. A jumble of rocks in a stone wall, the geometry of bricks in a building, a pattern of cracks in the sidewalk, the undulating view of a distant urban skyline, or a single object rising on the horizon are her visual and mental references.

This event is open to Collectors Circle members only. Please RSVP to Karina Quintana
