Purpose of the Adventures in Art Exhibit and Art Studio

The Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Art studio is designed to provide inspiration for children to explore their inner creativity with programs that change monthly. The self-guided Art Adventures program encourages children engage in process based art using their creativity with unique tools and art media. Children are able to explore making in the following areas clay, painting, drawing, weaving, loose parts, and recycled arts. In addition to visual arts this summer would include performance artists.

Residency Expectations

• Develop and lead a drop-in nature inspired art-based, music and or dance workshop for

children ages 0-8. The workshop hours should add up to 20 contact hours in length over a one-month period.

• Provide digital documentation of artist’s own artwork

• Complete a post reflection/survey

Compensation

• A modest honorarium of $700 and $200 to cover cost of materials.

• Museum will promote via website, digital screens within the Museum and social media

platforms.

Desired Artist Qualifications

• Visual artist work with recycled materials or has an eco-friendly focus

• Uses process-based practice

• Experience working with early childhood populations (birth-8 years old) preferred

• Interested in collaboration

The residency will consist of 20 contact hours between the artist and the Museum visitors. One Artist will be selected per month for June, July, August. Please provide 3 possible options and times.

Dates and times of Availability: Monday- mornings, Tuesday- mornings, Wednesday- afternoons, Friday afternoons

Residency Proposal

Proposal should be a page-length written (250 words minimum, not to exceed 750 words) proposal addressing potential timeline and expectations for drop-in activity indicating the areas of specialty (recycled art, clay, weaving, printmaking, collaborative projects, dance, singing). Outline any special tools/materials that might be needed for the completion of the residency project.

Experience with Public and Children
List qualifications as well as any previous experience working with public and working with children/families.

Artist Statement + Bio

Please provide a brief statement that addresses ideas found in your own artistic practice, not more than 100 words. This is used by the museum to share your work and expertise.

Artist Digital Images of Work

Email sample images of 3-5 pieces of recent work: your own artwork, past collaborative projects, public works, or a combination of these. This sample should give a sense of the work that will be displayed in the Museum and/or work similar to the workshop proposed. Schematics & drawings of proposed work are welcome. If including a schematic, this must be accompanied by images of projects/artwork that have already been actualized.
