The Mixtape New Works Festival Vol. 2
Instumental Theatre Company is an emerging Chicago theatre whose mission is to inspire harmony through ensemble storytelling crafted at the intersection of actors and musicians.
ITC invites Playwrights, Composers, and Writers to submit their work for The Mixtape New Works Festival Vol. 2.
The Mixtape New Works Festival Vol. 2 is a developmental project featuring 4 new pieces of theatre that will be work-shopped and performed as stage readings in May 2026.
The festival is to support the development of new musically inspired storytelling from Chicago artists.
We are currently accepting submissions for pieces that meet the following criteria.
- Full length "Plays with Music/Songs" or full length Musicals (Estimated 90-120 minutes in length).
- Chicago based writer(s) and/or composer(s).
- Has not had a fully realized production.
- Engages, aligns, or overlaps with Instrumental's mission to inspire harmony through ensemble storytelling crafted at the intersection of actors and musicians.
- This doesn't mean your piece has to be written explicitly to feature actor-musicians. It means the piece presents opportunities for music and story to blend together.
- Casts of 8 or fewer will be prioritized though larger casts will be considered.
- Interest and goals of the writer(s) in developing their piece will be considered.
- Limit of one submission per writer(s)
- BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and members of marginalized communities are highly encouraged to submit their work.
