Job Overview
The Arts Professional plays a vital role in fostering creativity and artistic expression among children and young adults. DMDL is currently seeking teaching artists to provide arts enrichment services to Chicago-area nonpublic school students in grades K–8.
This position involves developing and implementing engaging, age-appropriate arts programs in disciplines such as dance, music, voice, poetry, and visual arts. The ideal candidate is passionate about their art form, enjoys working in school-based environments, and can support a positive, respectful learning atmosphere for students.
Duties
- Design and deliver engaging arts programs that encourage creativity and self-expression for K–8 students
- Facilitate arts classes that are inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with arts education goals
- Use positive classroom management strategies to maintain a supportive and productive learning environment
- Create and maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming space for all participants
- Collaborate with school faculty and staff to support student engagement and success
Desired Qualifications
- Strong skills in one or more artistic disciplines (dance, music, visual arts, poetry, or related fields)
- Ability to plan and implement engaging, hands-on arts projects for elementary and middle school students
- Experience working with children in school or enrichment settings (K–8 preferred)
- Familiarity with positive behavior and classroom management strategies
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in nonpublic school settings
- A creative, flexible mindset and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary or hands-on artistic activities
- Background in education, early childhood, or youth development is a plus but not required
