Seeking volunteers/abuse survivors
Seeking to photograph survivors of sexual abuse and violence.   The work is meant to talk about the recovery of trauma, what exactly does that look like? Just how varied are the women/men and their experiences? While I want to weave a message of connections, I also want to share that survival is possible. Difficult, and possible. My approach is a collaborative one. I meet with each volunteer and photograph images based on each persons input and experience. Essentially I will be 'coding' each image in a way that speaks to each individual and in return critically adds to the conversation. I want to load each image with signifiers important to each individual I photograph. I do not feel the need to inform the viewer of the exact details of each person's history (I myself will require information in order to build the image), I prefer the work to stand in place of that conversation. I am flexible and aim to be sensitive to each image created.  Please feel free to reach me at omarivi@yahoo.com
