Open Rehearsal

Join us in the studio at Indian Boundary Cultural Center as we work on our current project Marginalia. There will be viewing of in-process movement material, plus an inside view into our rehearsal process and chance for feedback and discussion as a group. Marginalia is two female bodies enmeshed in intimate impetuosity, demarginalizing themselves in theatrical space. The tender temerity often suppressed in the flourishing of women’s relationships is engaged as a reclamation of the aestheticized or exoticized gaze. It is an invitation to explore the marginalized complexity of female rapport, the scrawled commentary of accord and dissent by women addressing the official text of subjugation and objectification, sexualizing and desexualizing, demonizing and domesticating. Following the bottom-up organization of a material-driven process, this piece is currently making space for an emergent structure to manifest. Marginalia values the impulses of cells and fluids as highly as the nervous system and places the human creature on equal footing with the socialized human. This commitment to somatic equality, where all aspects of the body are equally vital, presents an experiential metaphor for society equity.
