Have an idea for a project or community event you think would be a good fit with Roman Susan? Tell us who you are, what you do, and the experience you want to share! In particular, we are seeking project proposals for new Navigations and event proposals for Movement Studies at Berger Park Cultural Center. Navigations Projects
If you were going to guide someone around where you live, where would you take them?
We are interested in project proposals that are:
in and about public space; multi-sensory; and
accessible beyond timed events.
Artists receive an initial budget of $2,500 for the production of the work, and are in control of the timeline and scope of the project. Once the project has launched, there are annual stipends for maintenance or activations of the projects. For examples of ongoing Navigations projects, visit romansusan.org/navigations.
Movement Studies Events
For this ongoing series at Berger Park Cultural Center, we are interested in events created by artists investigating social and environmental transitions.
This has included, but is not limited to:
Artists receive an initial budget of $500 for a one-day event. Movement Studies takes place in City landmarked park district buildings, and do not permit physical alteration of the buildings. Generally, events are setup and reset in a single day, lasting between 2-5 hours in total. For more past examples, visit romansusan.org/movement-studies.
Annual review deadlines are June 10 and December 10
All proposals are considered for the next calendar year. Following the submission deadlines, proposals are reviewed by community volunteers, and then selected by popular consensus among Roman Susan directors. Notification of the proposal status generally occurs within 50 days of the review deadlines.
Artist Honorariums
Selected proposals and works receive honorariums, scaled to the duration and scale of the project. Roman Susan is a W.A.G.E. Certified Institution, and all artist fees meet W.A.G.E. payment standards.
