Lead Artist - Community Mural Project
United We Create: A Community Mural Project
Freeport Art Museum | Freeport, Illinois
The Freeport Art Museum (FAM) is seeking qualifications from Illinois-based professional artists to serve as Lead Artist for United We Create, a community-driven public mural project celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary.
The selected artist will lead the design and creation of a large-scale mural for FAM’s public plaza, developed through hands-on engagement with youth and community members. The project will explore shared histories, civic values, and visions for the future, grounding national themes in local stories and place-based activities. Community workshops, youth engagement sessions, and a public unveiling event are central components of the project.
The Lead Artist will receive a $7,500 honorarium, with additional support provided for travel, materials, equipment, and community programming.
Artists should have demonstrated experience in mural or public art projects and community-engaged practice. Artists from historically underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
