Artist Salon Series: Buying Property as a Group/Forming a Co-op
This is the 4th Salon in the series. One May 14th we are going to discuss buying property with friends and family as well as what it takes to start a cooperative living situation.
I am being joined by Artist Laura Weathered, director of the Near Northwest Arts Council and the project “Artists Design the Future,” who has helped develop several different artist’s housing groups (including the Bloomingdale Arts Building), and also Mark Smithivas, co-founder of the Logan Square Cooperative and a field organizer for the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board (UHAB) out of New York.
We will discuss some of the pros and cons of these group living situations and how best to manage the dynamic. We will also share resources to get you started if you want to look into buying in a group situation.
Our host for this Salon is the Bloomingdale Arts Building at 2418 W. Bloomingdale St. The event starts at 6 with light refreshments and the panel discussion will begin promptly at 6:30.
