Johana Moscoso (b. Bogotá, Colombia) is an artist living and working in Chicago, IL, USA. She uses video performance, live performance, textile and fiber art to explore concepts related to gender roles, migrations, and Hispanic and American cultures from a personal point of view.
In 2005, Moscoso earned her Bachelor of Visual Arts degree at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia where she received an Honorable Mention for her thesis, “Emotional Prostheses.” She moved to the United States in 2007 to pursue a Master’s degree. Moscoso received the Artistic Honors Scholarship at the Savannah College of Art and Design and was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2009.
Moscoso is represented by Otros 360 Grados Gallery, Bogotá, Colombia. Moscoso’s work is included in the collections of Latin-American collectors, Solita Mishaan and Cesar Gaviria, and private collections in Bologna, Italy, and Berlin, Germany. Her video performance and performances have been commissioned by curators Norene Leddy, Liz Slagus and Jessica Cochran. Her work was selected for the exhibition, El cambio de todo lo que permanenceat the International Art Fair of Bogotá, ArtBo 2014. This exhibition was part of the division of the fair (Artecámara) that hosted outstanding emerging artists.
