The Thing and its Double

Danny Giles
Chicago Artists Coalition is pleased to present The Thing and its Double, a solo exhibition of new works by Danny Giles. The exhibition opens on Friday, April 12, 2019 with a reception from 5-8PM.
Investigating private and public archives of representation, Giles’ work imagines through various media the body as a transformative agent. Expanding from performative work, Giles presents abstract and figurative proxies for presence that address how subject-positions are formed and dismantled through acts of seeing. Giles uses iconic and lesser-known figures as a starting point to deconstruct the ways that appearance is often mistaken for essence.
