Professional Development: Responsible approaches to the artist's estate
CAC's Professional Development series works to uncover subjects critical to professional artists and curators outside of making art.

Join Yechen Zhao, assistant curator, Photography and Media, at the Art Institute of Chicago and lecturer at School of the Art Institute Chicago for this online event.

Intended for curators, scholars, and critics, this workshop focuses on developing responsible methods for working with the art and archives of deceased artists. By considering the varying levels of organization and formality that an estate can take, from non-profit foundations to garages and attics, participants will learn about the personal and material pressures that estates face. Yechen Zhao, assistant curator of photography and media at the Art Institute of Chicago, will share insights on how to navigate the sensitive interpersonal, economic, and legal challenges of working with an artist's estate.
