Chicago Artists Coalition is pleased to present Minor Local Slumpage, a solo exhibition of new sculptures by BOLT Resident Ginger Krebs.

Krebs is best known for ensemble-performance works that investigate the vulnerability of bodies driven to achieve extreme efficiency or bodies surveilled by concealed systems of power. Revisiting sculpture after a 12-year hiatus, Krebs addresses awkwardness, intimacy, violence and seduction in the 40 fleshy specimens that comprise Minor Local Slumpage. They range in size -- some similar to sushi, others closer to a softball -- and reveal familiar materials, like a shoulder pad, a piece of fake baloney, or hair pulled from a drain. Many appear to have been disturbed; skewered, scraped, disemboweled, or encased in rubber. If asked for their manifesto, these works might reply:

We are moist.There are secrets. Our bodies escape us.

We have hair.We are tasty.We may be faking it.

Light on too many sides!

We survived something terrible.We can barely contain ourselves.We don’t yet exist.

Programming

Sculpture Tasting Saturday, May 13, 2017, 3:00 - 4:30 pm

Participants will be treated to an array of finger food delicacies. Classics like cocktail wieners and jujubes will be paired with tasty vegetarian originals in surprising new forms. Each taster will describe the foods in terms of "mouth feel," and their determinations will become the basis for a game. Gain new insights about yourself (and your date)!

Artist Bio

Ginger Krebs has been creating, performing and directing multi-disciplinary performance projects since 2005. Her work has been presented recently in Chicago at the Storefront Theater, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Hyde Park Art Center, and site-specifically at a traffic island in Wicker Park. She was awarded a MAP Fund grant for innovation in live performance in 2015, and her 2016 performance, Buffer Overrun, was chosen by the Chicago Tribune for The Best Dance of 2016. Krebs is an Adjunct Associate Professor in Performance and Contemporary Practices at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she teaches studio courses in performance and time arts.
