CAC is a non-profit organization that supports contemporary Chicago artists and curators by offering residency programs, exhibitions, professional development, and resources that enable them to live, work and thrive in the city

A rich history supporting Chicago artists

In 1974, CAC began as a small group of artists advocating for rights, support, and visibility. Its early achievements include the formation of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and the Percent for Art Ordinance. Since then, CAC has continued to grow and evolve to meet the needs of Chicago’s artists. In 2018 CAC moved to the Kinzie Industrial Corridor, building out its new space as ADA accessible and eliminating artist fees from its residency programs.
