Textiles Department Director

● Oversee hiring, training, scheduling and communicating with roughly 30 employees, including instructors and monitors. ● Distribute course proposals to instructors and filter responses. ● Using these proposals, create course catalogs for five sessions per year. This includes: ○ Making sure class offerings represent a wide variety of techniques at every skill level. ○ Keeping a “big picture” eye on the textiles world at large, and recruiting instructors for new and popular techniques. ○ Taking into account instructors availabilities. ○ Writing/re-writing course descriptions according to guidelines provided by Lillstreet. ● Communicate with instructors and liaise between department staff and Lillstreet administrative staff. ● Train instructors/monitors on studio usage and equipment. ● Purchase and distribute all materials requests for classes. ● Create and distribute open studio schedules. ● Work with Lillstreet’s Custom Class department to schedule and facilitate custom classes and parties within the Textiles Department. ● Work with Lillstreet’s Summer Camp Director to schedule and facilitate summer camps within the Textiles Department. ● Maintain sewing and print studio equipment. ● Maintain a full department inventory and purchase general supplies when necessary. ● Manage social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram. ● Supervise Textiles Department Artist in Residence: ○ Assist in promoting the call for applications to Textiles communities ○ Select a resident annually (Sept-August) ○ Train resident on studio usage/equipment ○ Communicate with resident and liaise between them and Lillstreet administrative staff ○ Studio support including tutelage, critique, etc. Benefits: ● One free class in any discipline, per session ● Class discount for immediate family members ● Health Insurance ● Discount in our gallery ● Flexible hours Qualifications: Candidates for this position do not need to be familiar with all offered techniques, although specialization in one or more areas may be helpful. Candidates must have strong communications skills and be disciplined in multi-tasking and time management. Managerial/administrative experience preferred.
